1.18

第一釋其教主者，依《大智度論》云：「有五種：第一佛說，第二聖弟子說，第三諸天說，第四神仙說，第五變化說。」今此經中但有其四，無神仙說，為佛印可，總名為經也。此即第一釋其教主竟。

Regarding the first, explaining its teaching lord: according to the *Dàzhìdù lùn*, it says, 'There are five kinds: first, spoken by the Buddha; second, spoken by holy disciples; third, spoken by devas; fourth, spoken by ṛṣis; fifth, spoken by apparitional beings.' Now in this sūtra there are only four, with none spoken by ṛṣis; being sealed and approved by the Buddha, they are collectively named 'sūtra'. This concludes the first, explaining its teaching lord.
