Now we draw on other vinayas to provide clear texts as proof. In the Daśādhyāya-vinaya: if a sleeping bhikṣu falls asleep after hearing the motion, he can still serve to banish another person; if he fell asleep before the motion, he does not make up the quorum. There are twelve kinds of persons: one who speaks incoherently, one in a tumult, one entered into absorption, a mute person, a deaf person, a person possessing both characteristics, an insane person, a distracted person, one whose mind is ruined by sickness, and a bhikṣu up in a tree. The Vinayamātṛkā lists: the gravely ill, border persons, the foolish and dull, and so forth; if they complete the assembly for pravāraṇā, none of it is accomplished; the rest is the same as the Daśādhyāya-vinaya. In the Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya: a person giving chanda, if separated by an obstruction, or half-covered and half-exposed with an obstruction between, or half-covered and half-exposed beyond arm's reach, or in an open space beyond arm's reach. Furthermore, if a karman is performed walking, sitting constitutes a separation; if walking, sitting, and lying down are done interchangeably—this is detailed in the chapter on 'The Separate Saṃgha.'
