初中。問：大界有村，得合結不？答：《五分》：諸白衣新作堂舍，為得吉利，或為非人所惱，請僧於中布薩。《薩婆多》云：凡結大界，所以通聚落者，以界威力故，惡鬼不得便，善神所護，為檀越故，通結聚落。《四分》文中，亦結村取。

Under the first section. Question: If there is a village within the great sīmā, may it be included and demarcated together? Answer: The Pañcavargika-vinaya states that when laypeople build new halls and houses, in order to gain auspicious fortune, or because they are harassed by non-human spirits, they invite the saṃgha to hold poṣadha within them. The Sarvāstivāda says: in general, the reason demarcating a great sīmā extends through settlements is that by the majestic power of the sīmā, evil spirits gain no advantage and benevolent spirits protect it, so it is demarcated through settlements for the sake of the dānapatis. In the text of the Dharmaguptaka Vinaya, villages are also included in the demarcation.
