If one sees someone committing offenses of the six categories, explain to him in detail in a secluded place: 'Living together now is entirely due to past karma; but the final kalpa has many obstacles, and those who maintain the precepts are few. I have seen you commit a certain offense; is this true or not?' If he answers that it is true, instruct him according to the Vinaya and Dharma: 'The text says: There are two kinds of foolishness: first, not recognizing an offense; second, failing to confess it after having committed it. There are two kinds of wisdom, which are the reverse of what was just said. One who complies with the Buddha's words is called a true maker of offerings; now, if you are unwilling to comply, do you wish to follow Māra? Offenses must not be accumulated, or they may become heavier (cite passages from the Nirvāṇa-sūtra to instruct him). Another sūtra says: A single thought of evil can open five unwholesome gates: first, evil can burn a person's roots of goodness; second, from evil further evil arises; third, being rebuked by the noble ones; fourth, falling away from the fruits of the path; fifth, entering evil destinies upon death, and so forth.' One should instruct him in various ways.
