五為和僧、護法。《四分》中：有同界安居，因我故鬪；外界僧尼鬪諍，須我和滅，聽直去。然和滅之相難知；約緣而受，不傷大理；律無正斷故。

Fifth, reconciling the saṃgha and protecting the Dharma: In the Dharmaguptaka Vinaya: 'If there are those residing in the same sīmā for varṣā who quarrel because of me, or if monks and nuns of an outside sīmā quarrel and dispute, requiring me to reconcile and extinguish it, one is permitted to go straightaway.' However, the signs of reconciliation and extinction are difficult to know; taking leave according to circumstances does not harm the overarching principle, because the Vinaya provides no definitive judgment.
