The third is purity by assignment: The Dharmaguptaka Vinaya states: When a dānapati or an administrative monk constructs a saṃghārāma for the saṃgha, he designates the place in this way, saying, 'Such-and-such a place is made pure ground for the saṃgha.' The Mahāsāṃghika Vinaya states: When constructing a new dwelling, before the administrative monk and the saṃgha have taken up residence, before the initial watch of the night, measure out the dimensions with a cord: 'This much is for the saṃgha's residence, and this much is a pure house,' and receive it; it must not exceed the initial watch of the night. (The Dharmaguptaka Vinaya specifies the appearance of dawn.) If the dānapati says, 'Do not assign it beforehand; I have not yet donated it to the saṃgha,' this is identical to purity by another's property. The Pañcavargika Vinaya states: When constructing a new dwelling where there is not yet a pure house, one should first point out such-and-such a place to make a pure ground, place the food inside, and only then may the saṃgha reside there; if it passes the emergence of the marks of dawn, it is invalid. The Samantapāsādikā states: How does one demarcate a pure house? When first erecting a pillar, one says, 'This place is made a pure house for the saṃgha.' Having spoken this three times, one then erects it. The others are also like this; if not like this, performing the procedure upon a single pillar is also valid. If it is already completed, call the original owner and tell him to designate a place at will to serve as a pure house for the saṃgha; if there is none, if there is a senior elder in the settlement, summon him and have him do it; if he does not understand, instruct him.
