Second, the three robes: The Dharmaguptaka Vinaya states: "Renounce all extra robes and wear the three robes." The treatise states: "Possessing only three robes and not keeping any other robes has ten benefits: (1) beyond the three robes, there is no weariness and suffering of seeking and receiving; (2) there is no weariness and suffering of guarding them; (3) what one keeps is minimal; (4) what is worn on the body alone is sufficient; (5) subtle observance of precepts; (6) traveling without burdens; (7) the body is light and agile; (8) one stays wherever there is an araṇya; (9) wherever one stays, there is no lingering attachment; (10) it accords with the practice of the path."
