初入寺法。《四分》云：客比丘欲入寺，應知佛塔，若上座等。至門中，應開；若不能者，徐打，令內人聞；不聞，大打；猶不聞者，持衣鉢與第二比丘，至下牆處，踰入開門。右繞塔過。先洗左脚，後洗右脚，著革屣。舊比丘聞客來，出外迎；為捉衣鉢，安置溫室、重閣、經行處，供給水器等。

First, the method of entering a monastery. The Dharmaguptaka Vinaya states: A visiting bhikṣu who wishes to enter a monastery should take note of the stūpa of the Buddha, the sthaviras, and so forth. When he reaches the gate, he should open it; if he cannot, he should knock gently to let those inside hear; if they do not hear, he should knock louder; if they still do not hear, he should hand his robes and bowl to a companion bhikṣu, go to a low section of the wall, climb over, and open the gate. He should circumambulate the stūpa clockwise as he passes. He should first wash his left foot, then wash his right foot, and put on his leather sandals. When the resident bhikṣus hear that a guest has arrived, they should go outside to welcome him; they take his robes and bowl for him, settle him in a heated room, an upper chamber, or a promenade, and supply him with water vessels and the like.
