3.459

律云：式叉尼，一切大尼戒應學。除自手取食，授食與他；若自取食食，律亦制犯。無沙彌尼者，開之；有者，得授與尼，自須受取。

The Vinaya states: "The śikṣamāṇā should learn all the precepts of a full bhikṣuṇī, except for taking food with her own hands and giving food to others; if she takes food herself and eats it, the Vinaya also prohibits it as an offense." Where there is no śrāmaṇerī, this is permitted; where there is one, she may give [food] to the bhikṣuṇī, but must formally receive what she takes herself.
