Among the rules for providing for resident bhikṣus, it is permitted to give large and small rope beds, large and small wooden beds, door pivots, door leaves, hook staffs, shoulder wraps, water bottles, wash bottles, and water storage vessels. Bathhouse bottles, beds, scraper knives for dirt, and the like. All lay vessels, farming plows, harrows, and the like should not be kept; vessels made of any precious substances are entirely forbidden. If traveling on a road, fearing snakes, scorpions, and various insects, one should hold a tin staff and shake it, or put small gravel in a tube, or split bamboo to make noise; one must not hold a staff in empty air; if one keeps it, deal with it according to the Dharma. If the saṃgha gathers and suffers from heat, it is permitted to make a large fan, or make a fan cart with rotating pivots, having a śrāmaṇera push it. If making cakes or roasted bean flour, requiring a flour container, a flour measuring vessel, a salt container (these characters are an error and should be the character lian, pronounced lian), vinegar bottles, wooden basins, water buckets, spoons, ladles, bowls, and the like, all are permitted. If eating and drinking to excess without moderation causes ailments, it is permitted to build a bathhouse. If the residential room is foul-smelling, apply fragrant mud, extending even to hanging incense in the four corners."
