Sixth, determining heavy and light [goods]. However, regarding these goods of the deceased, the various lineages have not harmonized, and following subjective preferences it is difficult to find trust. In principle, one must follow the original precept essence received: under whichever Vinaya one received the precepts, by that Vinaya one determines heavy and light. If the deceased person did not remember, and the caretaker of the sick does not know, then following whichever lineage's practical affairs they separately abided by, by that lineage one adjudicates right and wrong. One must not, out of a defiled mind and conduct, falsely grant or confiscate; having actually received from the Dharmaguptaka and practicing it in the present monastery, yet following greedy desires and mostly adjudicating light goods to enter the saṃgha, one then follows the Daśādhyāya-vinaya. This is an offense due to greed, not an offense due to the teaching. Now, prior to making determinations, one must prepare a general classification. Following the six different kinds of Vinaya holders, as listed in the preface, and discussing the application to affairs, there are three stages of resolution.
