In the concluding references: Tanyuan (a man of the Chen dynasty); Sengyou (a man of the Liang dynasty; that is, the prior incarnation of our Patriarchal Master; both masters first studied the Daśādhyāya-vinaya and later transmitted the Dharmaguptaka; their writings are unclear); Lingyu (a man of the Sui dynasty, with a five-fascicle commentary). Jiangbiao: biao means "outside"; some say Jiangwai or Jiangzuo, all referring to the Wu and Yue regions because they are outside the Yangzi and Han rivers. Guannei refers to Jingzhao; Henan refers to Luoyang; and the Shu region refers to East and West Sichuan. The reference to the Meaning Manual is to a passage not seen in the extant text. Everything clarified above represents what has been excerpted in the manual. That is, as the earlier preface says: "subsuming divergent schools," and so forth; it can be seen that four lines embrace them. Moreover, among the divergent attachments, although their transmissions and lectures were numerous, they do not go beyond six views, also as cited above.
