《雜含》，出第三十卷。初四句明自不學。彼文初下有始字，謂從初不學也。見下二句，明不喜他學。我下顯非，上句明佛不贊。謂縱有餘善，不可稱之。何下，示不贊之意。三塗幽暗，歷劫莫返，故云長夜。

In the Saṃyuktāgama, it appears in fascicle thirty. The first four lines clarify that one does not study oneself. In that text, below "first," there is the word "beginning," meaning from the very beginning one does not study. The two lines from "seeing…" down clarify that one does not rejoice in others studying. From "I…" down reveals the wrongness; the line above clarifies that the Buddha does not praise them. This means that even if they have other virtues, they cannot be commended. From "Why…" down indicates the reason for not praising. The three paths are murky and dark, and through kalpas there is no return; therefore it says "the long night."
