明衰惡中，《中含》。五衰，上四現相，下句生報。四中，上二明失利，由福薄故。三不敬者，由德尠故。四惡名者，由行穢故。耗，謂損減。

Under explaining decline and evil, in the Madhyamāgama: regarding the five declines, the upper four are present marks, and the lower line is retribution in the next life. Among the four, the upper two clarify loss of gain, due to having slight merit. The third, "not respected," is due to having few virtues. The fourth, "bad reputation," is due to defiled conduct. "Depletion" means diminution.
