In [the section on] without difficulties, first it shows that it is unfixed. The Commentary states: all the schools say one krośa, yet their explanations vary and are unfixed; the larger is two thousand bows, each bow being five forearms long (found in the Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya, calculated as ten leagues); the smaller is five hundred bows, each bow being four forearms long (found in the Daśādhyāya-vinaya, calculated as six hundred paces, which is two leagues). The note cites the Liaoshu, where the translation matches our vinaya; however, drums have large and small sizes, and sounds travel near and far, so it also cannot be standardized. From "Za" onwards, it clarifies what is adopted now: that sūtra says one krośa, and the note says: the language of Qin says five leagues.
