Regarding the meaning: in the first section, the text on relinquishing the precepts appears in two places: one in the precept on sexual intercourse, and one in the ordination rite. In the ordination rite, there is additionally a drunken person, which is cited in full in the *Annotated Karmans*; there, in the rite of ordination and relinquishment, it says: "Those who are asleep, drunk, or mad do not comprehend at all, and none of them accomplish [it], etc." Here it merely cites the text from the precept on sexual intercourse. Perhaps due to misunderstanding, someone mistakenly made alterations; or perhaps it was a scribal omission. The mad and insane are one person (the Vinaya text next lists two persons: distracted in mind and afflicted by pain; here madness encompasses them); the mute and deaf combined make three persons; viewing the Central Region and borderlands in relation to each other makes two persons. The Vinaya text is very broad; taking the essentials, it lists nine persons for now. From "meaning" onward, it demonstrates the meaning.
