In [the section on] the method for cities and villages: "Preliminary circumstances" refers to markers such as paying homage to the Saṃgha. The text conforms to the great wall in the diagram below as the method, and can be seen by checking against it. Nowadays when recording markers, they also follow simplicity and brevity. Depending on which way the gate faces, looking forward is "exiting," reaching the rear is "entering," going to the left is called "going up," and going to the right is called "going down." Furthermore, at the corner where it starts, one says "from here," and nowhere else is this written. Although this is not the intention of the Transactions Manual, for transactions it is easy to understand, and in principle it should be adopted. As for "speaking three times," the Vinaya has no fixed rule; the Commentary follows the words of requesting ordination and repentance, taking them as a precedent that it must be done three times, because in both cases they are cited in the preliminary circumstances of the karmavācanā.
