In manifesting the damage, it reverses the previous four meanings. The first four phrases reverse the first meaning above. "Departing from constant nature" clarifies relying on oneself. "Words lacking authority" clarifies not being based on the teachings. From "Penalties and punishments..." downward clarifies that the conduct of affairs is secular and vile, as listed below in the second gateway. The two phrases from "Those capable..." downward reverse the remaining three above. Those capable of applying what is wrong must combine both person and Dharma: the person is the leader of the assembly, and the Dharma is the non-standard regulation. The words "clamour and disorder" comprehensively encompass three faults: first, people do not follow conversion; second, there are no immediate benefits; third, there are no distant benefits. From "Therefore..." downward, it cites proofs. The fault of destroying the Dharma is heavy, while the merit of upholding the Dharma is deep; when scholars know this, what should they do? Not encountering the Buddha's era is the remaining retribution of the future. Being born in hell is the immediate retribution in the next life; "like the shooting of an arrow" speaks of its rapidity. Citing the Sūtra of Three Thousand [Dharmas], it clarifies that the Saṃgha must rely on the Dharma; since it lacks a good guide, it becomes a gathering of fools. From "Therefore..." downward, it accords with the text to show the meaning.
