In citing the ancients, namely Master Yu's "Monastery Proclamation," there are two parts: first, clarifying the intention of establishing a monastery, which again has three parts: first, recounting the universality of the Way. From "to receive" onward, clarifying the universality of affairs. From "without" onward, explaining the above two universalities. However, in the Vinaya there is also the mutual treatment of host and guest; this is merely based on residents having the new and the old, arbitrarily dividing host and guest. If discussing the Way and affairs, there is certainly no self and other. As for "the principle of the Saṃgha": if understood in terms of harmony in principle, it is the ultimate truth; if discussed in terms of harmony in affairs, it is simply reasonable principle. Equality is harmony. From "therefore" onward, next it directly clarifies the regulations of drink and food: first, recounting the universality of meaning. "Accordance with the Dharma" refers to the five ordained groups whose substance and marks are uncompromised; "in time" means arriving before noon. From "however" onward, next clarifying usage and giving. "Taking charge of the Way": "taking charge" means bearing responsibility, which designates the master of the assembly.
