Under "Human Realm", it first excludes the other destinies. According to the Sarvāstivāda school, the other destinies may all receive the three refuges, but do not share in the precept-dharma. The Satyasiddhi school also allows them the five and eight [precepts], but they are merely obstructed from leaving household life. Now, in explaining full ordination, the others are all included among the difficulties, as listed below. Why is this? Devas are mostly attached to pleasure, asuras harbor doubt, ghosts and spirits are deceitful and flattery-prone, animals are ignorant and dull, and hell-beings suffer constantly. Only this human realm experiences lighter suffering than the lower destinies and inferior pleasures compared to the heavens above; with strong faculties of mindfulness and memory, humans can exalt the work of the Path. These are all explained broadly in the *Commentary*, and are cited here in summary. "Mahāsāṃghika..." onward further screens the human realm. The text has two clauses: the former screens competence, prohibiting those who are underage; the latter screens age, barring those even if they are capable. The text below refers to a broader discussion; it says that eighty or ninety is too old, and over seventy, if one requires others to lie down and get up, ordination is not permitted; if one can practice the various duties, leaving household life is permitted (meaning becoming a śrāmaṇera).
