五念中，上明無緣不別法。準《羯磨》云：我今不別眾食。然別眾唯約受請為言；若常住食，則無別過；可準此文，但云依眾。必下，有緣開別。九緣別眾，戒中委出，故指如後。

In the fifth mindfulness, the above clarifies the method of not eating separately when there are no conditions. According to the Karmavācanā, one says: 'I will not now eat separately from the Saṃgha.' However, eating separately applies solely when accepting an invitation; in the case of food of the permanent residence (nityabhakta), there is no offense of eating separately. One may follow this text and merely say: 'Depending on the Saṃgha.' From 'if necessarily' below, when there are conditions, an exception is made for eating separately. The nine conditions for eating separately are set out in detail in the precept, hence they are referred to below.
