Explaining the third [section]: the six matters. First, time of birth: saying "you were not born at such a time." Second, age in years: saying "you do not have such-and-such years as others who received [the precepts]." Third, receiving the precepts: saying "the years of your precept reception are insufficient," and "there was a separate assembly within the boundary." Fourth, the karman: "when you received [the precepts], the karman was not accomplished." Fifth, the six clusters: saying "you committed a pārājika down to an evil speech." Sixth, the holy Dharma: saying "the rules and Dharma you inquire about constitute a self-claim to superhuman qualities, committing a grave offense, and you are not a bhikṣu." From "following..." onward is the general conclusion. The citation above from the Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya only permits exceptions at the time of proper reception; the note, following the non-offenses, also permits them after reception.
