制意中。《多論》三意：初即重戒，是道本故；二增己行；三是護法。毘尼禁惡，毀則惡法熾然。又下，釋雜碎義。若據律緣，指下三篇威儀為雜，論約廣略對明純雜。

In the intention behind the prohibition: The Sarvāstivāda Vinaya Vibhāṣā gives three reasons: first, the grave precepts are the root of the path; second, to increase one's own practice; third, to protect the Dharma. The Vinaya prohibits evil; if it is disparaged, evil dharmas will blaze forth. From "Furthermore..." onwards, explaining the meaning of "minor and trivial": According to the Vinaya's circumstances, it points to the etiquette in the lower three sections as trivial; the treatise, based on extensive and abbreviated, contrasts pure and mixed.
