2.1335

不犯中。並謂期心後誦，非毀滅故。初開先習經論。雖無所犯，乖學次第，非本教意；《淨心觀》云：越學空宗，佛不隨喜是也。次開病緣，後開進行。謂直修三學，破惑取果，擬後誦之。故知至聖不違此制。

Under "Non-offenses": all refer to intending in one's mind to recite it later, not seeking to destroy it. First, it makes an exception for studying the sūtras and treatises beforehand. Although no offense is committed, it runs contrary to the sequence of learning and is not the intention of the root teaching; as the Jingxin guan states: "When one leapfrogs to study the teaching of emptiness, the Buddha does not rejoice." Next, an exception is made for conditions of illness. Later, an exception is made for progressing in practice: that is, directly cultivating the three trainings to destroy delusion and attain the fruit, planning to recite it later. Thus we know that even the ultimate sage did not violate this prohibition.
