止持中，初牒名。方下，釋義，初釋止義。方便者，起對治也；正念者，離邪染也。身口者，且據七支，必通三業。止而下，釋持義。持由下，雙結。如下，舉事。言之類者，二篇已下，但是離非，悉歸止攝。

In "Maintenance through Cessation," first the name is cited. Below "expedient means," the meaning is explained, first explaining the meaning of cessation. "Expedient means" refers to giving rise to antidotes; "correct mindfulness" refers to leaving defilement behind. "Body and mouth" provisionally relies on the seven paths of action, but must penetrate the three karmas. Below "ceasing and," it explains the meaning of maintenance. Below "maintenance is due to," both are concluded together. Below "such as," matters are adduced. Speaking of "and the like," from the second chapter down, anything that is merely leaving wrongs behind is completely subsumed under cessation.
