In the next section, individual enumeration: the first phrase explains the offense in terms of judicial decision. "Adjudicating the grave into the light": whenever adjudicating the property of the deceased, a Vinaya master must be deputed to decide between grave and light and announce it to the Saṃgha with a written register; to adjudicate what is grave as light incurs a pārājika; to adjudicate what is light as grave incurs a sthūlātyaya; in both cases, the mark of the offense is determined when the written register is completed. "Unlawful adjudication and use" refers to the usual practice of falsely writing in registers and ledgers, and the like. Under the Samantapāsādikā: such as drafting contracts to demarcate land boundaries. "One end light" means that when writing the place of departure, it is a preparatory sthūlātyaya; "both ends grave" means that when writing further to the place reached, it is a consummate pārājika. "Drawing characters" (huazi) is an error; the treatise says "writing characters" (shuzi), and the Precept Commentary also cites it according to the treatise. (Some say: drawing characters on the ground without referring to contracts; this, it is feared, does not fit the intention of the section.)
