2.44

《母論》，初牒名。如下，喻釋，上三句喻殘。理下一句喻僧。此望初篇，名為斷頭，不可救故。故下，引律助顯。強與，即是早救；餘罪不然，從彼自悔爾。

In the *Mātṛkā*, it first restates the name. The phrase 'as...' explains by analogy; the upper three lines illustrate 'remainder'. The line following 'principle' illustrates 'saṃgha'. Compared to the first division, that is called 'beheading' because it cannot be saved. The phrase 'therefore...' cites the Vinaya to assist in revealing it. 'Forcibly giving' means rescuing early; other offenses are not like this, but follow their own repentance.
