Under 'Keeping and Using', it first explains the method of use. The first line of the *Mahāsāṃghika* provides a general indication. Under 'At...', it explains specifically, first explaining its use on the road. 'Folded lengthwise' means folded vertically into four layers; 'folded in the middle' means folding it in half horizontally. Under 'If placed...', it next explains its use in the monastery. 'Original place' refers to the bed where one regularly sits. Causing it to cover the middle is for fear of dust contamination before sitting. 'Later gently unfold' means unfolding it again when sitting. Under 'Whenever...', it incidentally shows the method of sitting. Because a non-Buddhist tested a bhikṣu and the bed collapsed, exposing his body, it was therefore prohibited. Under '*Damamūka*...', it next explains the method of carrying. Both the sūtras and the Vinaya state to place it upon the shoulder; what was cited earlier from the *Mahāsāṃghika* is also thus. The subsequent rebuke of the illegal practice is based on the [custom] before it was abolished. According to the *Record of Inspirations*, when non-Buddhists raised difficult objections, it was placed back on the left forearm; now one must rely on the *Record*.
