In the measure, the first section again has three: first, the three grades are indicated. Between the upper and lower is the middle grade. From "This" onward, the second [part] establishes the differences in bushels (*dǒu*), first taking the Zhou bushel. The note pointing to secular methods refers to Master Sun's *Mathematical Classic*: ten grains of millet make a *guī*, ten *guī* make a *chāo*, ten *chāo* make a *cuò*, ten *cuò* make a *sháo*, ten *sháo* make a *hé*, ten *hé* make a peck (*shēng*), ten *shēng* make a bushel (*dǒu*), and ten *dǒu* make a picul (*hú*). These multiplying increments show what may be relied upon as a standard. According to what follows, the third [part] reconciles this with the Tang bushel. The miscellaneous statutes of the Tang dynasty take three bushels of the Ji Zhou as one bushel. Nowadays in secular practice, the Tang bushel is conventionally used, and it is proper to rely on it as the measure.
