In the sixth [part], the Mahāsāṃghika commands changing secular [forms of address]. The character "A" is pronounced with an entering tone. "According to what is appropriate" means inferring by principle, since it is not explicit in the text. The Zengyi explains changing one's surname. It says there: "When the four castes leave the household, all are called Śākya." This refers to bhikṣus and does not concern secular persons; this clarifies that after leaving the secular world, one must not rely on one's original clan surname. The Samantapāsādikā mentions calling a servant girl: since she has already left the household, she is no longer subordinate; therefore one adds an elegant title and no longer uses her original name. "Amoni" is the name by which the Buddha addressed his maternal aunt. However, these two titles are general designations for women; what was prescribed by the Mahāsāṃghika is restricted to original relatives, so they are not the same.
