In the next section: first, it reviews the preceding chapters. "Various sections" summarizes the twenty-six chapters above; because in these various chapters, the headings and meanings follow one another, and the categories of matters run through systematically, showing that they are not chaotic, it says "daily paths subsuming one another." From "separate" onward, next, it looks forward to show the subsequent chapters: "separate categories" refers to śrāmaṇeras and bhikṣuṇīs being distinct relative to fully ordained monks; the "various schools" are distinct relative to our own school. "Comprehensively gathering" also demonstrates that it is not disorderly; "embracing" (luo) means encompassing. From "by means of" onward, it directly clarifies the present chapter. The upper two sentences explain that the matters are miscellaneous: "tangled categories" means having no systematic flow; "severance" means the meaning is isolated and disconnected; "continuity" means matters are sometimes linked together. None of them form systematic sections, hence they are called "miscellaneous duties." "Entangled" (fenlun) is an analogy to the tangling of silk threads. The next two sentences explain that the texts are miscellaneous. "Trifling" (suo) means small. "This separate" points directly to the present chapter; relative to what precedes and follows, it is called "separate."
