2.371

What is not given as food means what has not yet been accepted. Acceptance has five kinds: giving by hand, receiving by hand; giving by hand, receiving with an object; giving with an object, receiving by hand; handing over with an object, receiving with an object; or passing an object from afar where both the giver and the recipient are aware, without any obstruction in between, and it falls into the hand. Furthermore, there are five kinds: giving with the body, robe, bent elbow, or a vessel, and receiving back with the above four, or if under certain circumstances it is placed on the ground and given—these are the five kinds.
