Fourth is the abbreviated [prātimokṣa] of Krakucchanda Buddha. The people of that Buddha's era were mostly greedy for gain and offerings, and also resisted their master's teachings, conversely speaking of their master's faults, and were negligent in cultivating wholesome qualities. Therefore he instituted the precept, saying, "Even when entering a village," meaning that when entering a village, one does not damage the donor's mindset and maintains moderation with modest food. Furthermore, towards the master's teachings, one does not give rise to opposition, but simply acts in accordance with the instruction, not scrutinizing whether the master acts or does not act, and so on. In the Mahāyāna precepts, not scrutinizing the Dharma master's lineage and so forth is of this kind. The rest of the text can be understood.
