授四依法（有一年少外道來求出家，諸比丘即與出家，先與四依。彼外道報言：「大德！我堪受二依：乞食、樹下坐。納衣、腐爛藥，我不堪此二事。何以故？誰能自觸己物。」即便休道，不出家。佛言：「此外道不出家，大有所失；若出家者，當得道證。自今已去，先受戒已，後受四依。」應語云：）

The procedure for conferring the four reliances (There was a young non-Buddhist who came seeking to go forth. The bhikṣus immediately gave him ordination, first conferring the four reliances upon him. That non-Buddhist responded, saying: "Venerable ones! I am capable of accepting two reliances: begging for food and sitting under trees. Rag robes and putrid medicine—I am not capable of these two things. Why is that? Who could bear to touch their own filth?" Thereupon he quit the path and did not go forth. The Buddha said: "This non-Buddhist not going forth is a great loss; if he had gone forth, he would have attained realization of the path. From this day forward, first confer the precepts, and only afterward confer the four reliances." One should speak to him, saying:)
