"This object is not permitted to me; you should know this." (Or say:) "Know this, see to this." (Or, if accepting on behalf of the Buddha, Dharma, or Saṃgha, when receiving it one should speak the words of making it allowable. The words for making it allowable should say:) "Know this, see to this." (If one does not say to that person: "Know this, see to this," it is a duṣkṛta. If relying on the Sarvāstivāda procedure for making it allowable: for all precious items such as money, one should first seek a lay kappiya-kāraka who understands the Dharma, explain the intention to make him understand, and further say to him: "The rule for me as a bhikṣu is not to keep money or precious items; I now take the dānapati as the owner for allowable goods. When I later obtain money and precious items, I will bestow them all on the dānapati." If the owner for allowable goods dies or travels far to another country, one should seek another owner for allowable goods. However, there are two kinds of speaking to make it allowable: if a layperson brings money or precious items and offers them, the bhikṣu merely says: "This is an unallowable object; I should not keep it. If it is made allowable, I will accept it." This is making it allowable. If the layperson says, "I give the precious item to the bhikṣu," the bhikṣu says, "I should not keep it," and the kappiya-kāraka replies, "Exchange it for an allowable object and keep it," this is making it allowable. If the layperson does not say to exchange it for an allowable object and keep it, and the bhikṣu himself does not speak to make it allowable, but simply leaves it on the ground and departs: if there is a bhikṣu present, he should speak to him to make it allowable, keeping it for whatever duration. The phrasing is the same as above.)
