At that time the Buddha addressed the bhikṣus: "There are two kinds of persons who dwell without peace and happiness: first, those fond of anger; second, those harbouring resentment. Furthermore, there are two qualities: first, impetuosity; second, difficulty in relinquishing. Furthermore, there are two qualities: first, stinginess; second, jealousy. Furthermore, there are two qualities: first, deceit; second, flattery and crookedness. Furthermore, there are two qualities: first, self-exaltation; second, fondness for dispute. Furthermore, there are two qualities: first, love of adornment; second, heedlessness. Furthermore, there are two qualities: first, conceit; second, excessive conceit. Furthermore, there are two qualities: first, greed; second, hostility. Furthermore, there are two qualities: first, self-praise; second, disparagement of others. Furthermore, there are two qualities: first, wrong views; second, extreme views. Furthermore, there are two qualities: first, being difficult to instruct; second, not accepting admonition." The Buddha having spoken thus, the bhikṣus heard it, rejoiced, faithfully accepted, and upheld it.
