3.40

與草覆地毘尼法（若諸比丘尼作念：「我曹多犯眾戒，非沙門法，亦作亦說，出入無限。若我曹還自共善問此事，或能令此諍事轉深重，經歷年月，不得如法、如毘尼、如佛所教滅除諍事，令僧不得安樂。」佛言：「應滅此諍，猶如草覆地。」）

Procedure for the vinaya of covering over with grass (If the bhikṣuṇīs reflect: "We have committed many infractions of the precepts of the community, which are not the practices of a śramaṇa, both acting and speaking, entering and exiting without restraint. If we were to cross-examine each other concerning these matters, it might cause this dispute to become even deeper and graver, lasting through months and years, so that the dispute could not be extinguished dhammena, according to the vinaya, or according to what the Buddha taught, causing the saṃgha to find no peace." The Buddha said: "This dispute should be extinguished just as covering over the ground with grass.")
