At that time, the Buddha addressed the bhikṣus: "There are two kinds of persons who dwell in unease: first, those prone to anger; second, those who harbor resentment. Furthermore, there are two traits: first, impatience; second, difficulty in letting go. Furthermore, there are two traits: first, stinginess; second, jealousy. Furthermore, there are two traits: first, deceit; second, flattery. Furthermore, there are two traits: first, arrogance; second, fondness for contention. Furthermore, there are two traits: first, fondness for adornment; second, heedlessness. Furthermore, there are two traits: first, conceit; second, excessive conceit. Furthermore, there are two traits: first, greed; second, malice. Furthermore, there are two traits: first, praising oneself; second, disparaging others. Furthermore, there are two traits: first, wrong views; second, extreme views. Furthermore, there are two traits: first, being difficult to instruct; second, not accepting instruction." The Buddha spoke thus, and the bhikṣus, hearing it, rejoiced, faithfully accepted it, and put it into practice.
