Thirty-second: the precept against harming sentient beings. There are six matters here; it was instituted to guard against harm in advance, running contrary to compassion. All seven assemblies equally commit an offense; Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna both prohibit it. The narrative of events lists six matters in all: first, trafficking in weapons for killing; second, keeping light scales and small bushels, and short yardsticks also follow this rule; third, relying on governmental authority to seek wealth; fourth, binding with a malicious mind; fifth, destroying successful endeavors; sixth, keeping and raising cats and raccoons. All six of these items cause harm; one should not maintain things that injure.
