第四十四、不供養經典戒。三寶皆應供養，若不修者乖於謹敬之心故制。七眾同，大小不全共。菩薩應修五事，聲聞五篇輕重法應誦持，餘事不制。序事三階：一、標勸。「受持」下，二、別列。勸事凡五種：一、受持，二、讀，三、誦，四、書寫，五、供養。解脫已在上三十九中。「若不」下，第三、舉非結過。經典是佛母，應供養，不者犯罪。

Forty-fourth, the precept against failing to make offerings to the scriptures: All Three Jewels should receive offerings; established because failing to cultivate this runs contrary to a mind of reverent respect. It applies to all seven assemblies; it is not entirely shared between the Great and Small. Bodhisattvas should cultivate five things; śrāvakas should chant and uphold the rules of light and heavy offenses in the five categories, while remaining unbound regarding other matters. The account of the matter has three stages: First, setting forth the encouragement. From "Accepting and upholding" below, second, distinct enumeration: the encouraged matters are five in all: 1. accepting and upholding, 2. reading, 3. reciting, 4. copying, 5. making offerings. Understanding has already been addressed above in the thirty-ninth. From "If one does not" below, third, citing the transgression and concluding the offense. The scriptures are the mother of the Buddhas and should receive offerings; not doing so is an offense.
