說教本末中，初五句顯本身說，即千釋迦為百億釋迦所將眾說。次五句示末身說，即百億釋迦為時眾說。「甘露門則開」者，涅槃之法一飡永存故云「甘露」，由戒能入故稱為「門」，今說故則「開」也。「還至本道場」者，百億國土各是當分化境，故名「本道場」。「本師戒」者，諸佛以戒為本師。

In [the verses] explaining the root and branches of the teaching, the first five lines reveal the exposition by the original body—that is, the exposition given to the multitude led by the thousand Śākyamunis for the hundreds of millions of Śākyamunis. The next five lines show the exposition by the branch bodies—that is, the exposition given to the contemporary assemblies by the hundreds of millions of Śākyamunis. Regarding "the gate of ambrosia is then opened": because one taste of the dharma of nirvāṇa endures forever, it is called "ambrosia"; because it is entered by means of precepts, it is called a "gate"; and because [they are] now expounded, it is "opened." Regarding "they returned to their original bodhimaṇḍas": the hundreds of millions of lands are each their corresponding domain of transformation, hence called "original bodhimaṇḍas." Regarding "the precepts of our fundamental master": all Buddhas take the precepts as their fundamental master.
