Regarding "Namely, the skandhas of clinging are established [...] like a tree with flowers and fruit": this is the answer. Among these sāsrava [dharmas], what are established are the skandhas of clinging (upādāna-skandha). These skandhas of clinging are not only named skandhas of clinging, but are also called skandhas. There are [dharmas] that are skandhas alone and not skandhas of clinging, namely anāsrava conditioned factors (saṃskāra), because the name "skandha" is generic. A fire arising from grass and chaff is called a grass-and-chaff fire; skandhas arise from clinging and are therefore called skandhas of clinging—named from their cause. Afflictions (kleśa) are called clinging because they can grasp and cling; this is a tatpuruṣa compound. A minister belonging to a king is called a royal minister; skandhas belong to clinging and are therefore called skandhas of clinging—named from belonging. A tree that produces flowers and fruit is called a flower-and-fruit tree; skandhas can produce clinging and are therefore called skandhas of clinging—named from their effect.
