"There is [such a case] in terms of the continuum, not in terms of the object": this is the answer. "There is" means that in terms of a single person's continuum of body, it is said that toward the three, gladness and the rest, it can only conformingly generate one exploration, and does not give rise to the other two. It is not in terms of the object, because regarding an object, many types of cognizing are possible. Thus the Vibhāṣā, fascicle 139, says: "Question: Are there forms and so forth that definitively accord with gladness, up to definitively according with equanimity? Answer: In terms of the object, there are none; in terms of the continuum, there are. That is, a form or the like may at times be agreeable, or disagreeable; or it may be agreeable to one person, disagreeable to another, and neither agreeable nor disagreeable to a third. Some say that forms and the like accord with gladness toward the category of kin, accord with grief toward the category of enemies, and accord with equanimity toward the category of neutral persons."
