"The commentary states... neither different nor nonexistent": this explains the second line. An enemy is called a non-friend (amitra); deceitful speech is called untrue (anṛta); unrighteousness (adharma) means unwholesome factors; non-benefit (anartha) means unwholesome benefit; non-matter (akārya) means unwholesome deeds. These are the things opposed and eliminated by friends and so forth, and are therefore named non-friends and so on. They are neither merely different from friends and so on, nor are they the mere absence of friends and so on. Ignorance is also like this: ignorance is the factor opposed and eliminated by knowledge; it is not merely something different from knowledge, nor is it the mere absence of knowledge.
