13.38

「有執燈焰滅以住無為因」者，此是上坐部，正量部計。住謂住相。住相若在，法無容滅；以住無故，方能滅法。故彼燈焰滅，以住無為因。

[On the text,] "Some hold that the destruction of a lamp flame has the nonexistence of duration as its cause": This is the doctrine of the Sthavira and Sammatīya schools. "Duration" refers to the characteristic of duration. If the characteristic of duration is present, phenomena cannot be destroyed; only when duration is nonexistent can phenomena be destroyed. Thus, for them, the destruction of a lamp flame takes the nonexistence of duration as its cause.
