"Born of dhyāna [...] this too should be likewise" explains the second and third lines of the verse, where one who attains dhyāna possesses [the discipline] of dhyāna, clarifying the dhyāna discipline. The phrase 'born of dhyāna' in the verse means that this discipline arises from dhyāna, explained in terms of the generative cause (janaka-hetu); or that it relies upon dhyāna, explained in terms of the supportive cause (āśraya-hetu). Hence it is called the discipline born of dhyāna. One who attains dhyāna definitely possesses this dhyāna discipline. The preparatory thresholds (sāmantaka) of the dhyānas are also called dhyāna, just as rice fields in the vicinity of a village obtain the name of the village. For these preparatory stages, the principle should also be likewise.
