[On the text,] "The vocal bad paths of karma [...] subsequent and light": Vocal bad paths of karma do not subsume, under vocal bad conduct, preparatory actions, subsequent actions, singing with a defiled mind under a wheel-turning king or in the northern continent, and the like. Frivolous talk is light; the three bodily paths of karma harm others and are heavy. In the northern continent and under a wheel-turning king, [the heavy ones] are never produced at all, so bodily actions and the like are not said to be light. Alternatively, drinking alcohol and the like are light bodily actions; or engaging in deception and the like that fail to be accomplished due to a lack of conditions are also called light vocal actions. Because preparatory actions and the like are not coarse and manifest, they are not named paths of karma. Only when vocal badness is coarse, manifest, and easily known is it named a path of karma.
