As for "If there is a dharma ... it does not increase through adherence to an object": This explains the first heading. If there is a dharma that is grasped as one's own by the view of self and craving of this stage, it is reasonable that it can increase through adherence to an object for all the anuśayas belonging to this stage of the view of self and craving, like dust settling and remaining on wet clothing. The clothing is the metaphor for the dharma; the wetness is the metaphor for the view of self and craving; the dust settling and remaining is the metaphor for the afflictions increasing through adherence. Uncontaminated dharmas are not grasped as one's own by any views of self or craving, nor are dharmas of the upper stages grasped as one's own by lower views of self or craving; therefore, the afflictions taking those uncontaminated dharmas as objects and the afflictions of a lower stage taking those upper stages as objects do not increase through adherence to an object.
