The words 'Relying precisely on this meaning ... the fourth noble lineage' explain the last two lines [of the verse]. Relying precisely on the meaning of the four noble lineages here, it is explained in an alternative way. That is, in order to temporarily quiet desire for things pertaining to 'mine' and forever eradicate desire for the thing pertaining to 'self', the Buddha taught the four noble lineages. 'Things pertaining to mine' refers to clothing, food and drink, and bedding. 'The thing pertaining to self' refers to one's own body, namely, existence and non-existence. Craving oriented toward those four is called 'desire'. In order to temporarily quell the former three cravings, he taught the former three noble lineages; in order to forever eliminate the four kinds of craving, he taught the fourth noble lineage, delighting in abandoning and delighting in cultivation.
