"The treatise says ... does not cultivate the knowledge of another's mind": this explains the first line and the six of the saikṣa in the second line. In the anantarya-mārgas of the first five spiritual lineages in the sharpening of faculties at the stage of the śaikṣa, the four dharma-jñānas and four anvaya-jñānas are cultivated in the present according to applicability, because the sharpening of faculties by a śaikṣa severs the ignorance that obstructs the faculties, which is directly triggered by the afflictions [abandoned] by seeing. Just as in severing the afflictions [abandoned] by seeing the four dharma- and anvaya-jñānas are cultivated in the present according to applicability, so too the sharpening of faculties by a śaikṣa, like that [seeing], arises in the present and cultivates six in the future: [the knowledges of] the four truths, dharma, and anvaya. This is because they resemble the eight kṣāntis of the ānantarya-mārga in the darśana-mārga, which are not specifically designated. Or, it is because they resemble the four ānantarya-mārgas in the darśana-mārga that abandon the stage of neither-conceptualization-nor-non-conceptualization (naivasaṃjñānāsaṃjñā-āyatana), for the afflictions [abandoned] by seeing of that stage are not abandoned by conventional [knowledge]. Or, it is because they resemble the one ānantarya[-mārga] in the darśana-mārga that abandons the stage of neither-conceptualization-nor-non-conceptualization abandoned by the truth of the path, since the sharpening of faculties by a śaikṣa is like the one ānantarya[-mārga] of attaining the first fruit. Although these three explanations differ, all do not cultivate conventional [knowledge]; because the ānantarya-mārga can sever obstacles, it does not cultivate [knowledge of] another's mind, for [knowledge of] another's mind is a supernatural knowledge, and because that [path] is directly severing obstacles, it cannot cultivate it.
